VERY REV. FR. +IHOR OKHRIMTCHOUK 1970-2021

Fr. Ihor had served as parish priest since at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Ukrainian Orthodox Church since May 2002. He was passionate about building both a strong Orthodox Christian and Ukrainian cultural community in Ottawa. Born in 1970 in Lanivtsi, Volyn, a village in western Ukraine, Fr. Ihor completed secondary school there and later enrolled in Ternopil Polytechnical Institute prior to conscription in the army of the Soviet Union in 1988. After completing military service, Fr. Ihor immigrated to Canada in December 1990 and began theological studies in Winnipeg at the Faculty of Theology, St. Andrew’s College, University of Manitoba, eventually completing a Bachelor of Theology degree in 1988. Along with theology, Fr. Ihor took courses at the University of Manitoba in management, economics and computer science. Fr. Ihor was ordained to the diaconate in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada in 1996 at the Dormition of Theotokos Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Surrey, B.C. Three years later, on October 10, 1999, he was ordained to the Holy Priesthood of the UOCC at the All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Transcona, Manitoba. Between 1999 and 2002, Fr. Ihor held pastoral assignments with St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Portage La Prairie, MB and with Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Brandon , Manitoba. Father Ihor’s pastoral identity has been strongly influenced by the mentorship of many clergy, lay organizations and laymen and women of the UOCC and other Orthodox clergy as well as clergy from other denominations and faith traditions. A fervent believer in continuing education, Fr. Ihor completed a Bachelor of Computer Science at the University of Manitoba in 2001, and a Bachelor of Education at the University of Ottawa in 2006. He had since completed graduate courses in theology, pastoral care, community dynamics and development at St. Paul University in Ottawa. He was continuing his studies towards a Master of Arts in Counselling. Fr. Ihor was a member of the steering committee of the Ottawa Interfaith Council as well as a registered member of the Ontario Teachers College. He was frequently called upon as a representative of the Orthodox faith at interdenominational venues in Ottawa. It was also at St. Andrew’s College, University of Manitoba, where Fr. Ihor met Jennifer Atamanchuk, a fourth-generation Ukrainian Canadian, and a student at the University of Manitoba. On July 22, 1995, Ihor and Jennifer were married at St. George's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Dauphin, Manitoba. Since their marriage Dobrodiyka Jennifer assisted Fr. Ihor in many volunteer capacities within the church. The couple have two children. Fr. Ihor was actively serving his flock and the Ottawa community to his untimely repose on Wednesday, June 23rd, 2021. May his memory be eternal!

January 20, 2021, the year of Our Lord

CHRIST IS BORN! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Executive of Holy Trinity sincerely greets you with the Holy Birth of our Saviour and
with the New Year - 2021. We wish health, strength and patience for you in this difficult
time. We are certain that with God's help mankind will overcome this pandemic if we
abide by health regulations.
The insidious Covid-19 disrupted our church’s liturgical celebrations of Christmas and
Holy Epiphany and traditional carolling, however water was consecrated on the Feast of
Jordan in the absence of parishioners. Those wishing to take home the Holy Water are
asked to register with the church administrator (tel. 519-681-6173) Mr. M. Krasnovolsky
and agree on the time of pickup. We remind you that you must have a protective mask
when you come and follow the rules of the state of emergency.
We hope that in the near future our temple will open. God willing, we will pray together,
within the appropriate provincial security requirements, including fewer attendees at one
time and strict adherence to health regulations. Notification will be made on the website
or by telephone in regards to our opening.
We truly thank everyone who made donations in support of the church last year. Two
important works were carried out - an elevator was installed and the stairs of the main
entrance to the church repaired, in addition to restorative care given to the interior of the
temple. The official income tax receipt for your generous donation will be sent out soon.
Thank you to those who volunteered or are already coming to help with the cleaning
after the completion of the renovations. We will be sincerely grateful for gifts of Koliada
and other donations in these months to cover the maintenance of the temple. If
possible, you can pay your membership for 2021 and for previous years (if unpaid). An
envelope for such purpose will be attached to your letter.
Thank you to the Foundation of St. Volodymyr of Toronto, which donated $ 1,000. to
support parish projects. We hope to meet soon to continue to plan and develop spiritual
and cultural programs for our youth, seniors and all our faithful.
We wish all parishioners, may the Lord bless you for good deeds, give you health and
inspiration, and help you to overcome difficulties in your life‘s journey in peace and love.
CHRIST IS BORN! LET US GLORIFY HIM!

Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

Dear faithful, we pray that you are in good health, steadfast, and hopeful for better days when we will begin to worship together in our Church.

The time has come. After the completion of construction projects, on February 25, 2021, the elevator complex was finally blessed, marking the beginning of celebrations after almost a one-year break.

The Church board has approved preventive measures against Covid. His Grace Bishop Andriy has given us his blessing and prays for our spiritual renewal.

At all services, parishioners must adhere to health regulations approved by the Ontario government, including health checks and restrictions on attendance. Changes will be made in accordance with government requirements. As we resume prayer in our Khram, our main concern is the safety of all participants in worship services and the community as a whole.

Anyone wishing to participate in church services must register by calling Mykola at Parish Office 519-681-6173 or Vivian at 519-686-5740. The initial telephone conversation will include answers to questions according to a checklist of health conditions (absence or presence of symptoms associated with Covid, etc.).

If your health changes during the week or you are unable to attend the service, please let us know. If for some reason you feel sick on the day of, please do not come.

The entrance to the Church will be only through the new lobby at the side of the building where the elevator entrance is located. The final check will be conducted there. According to the regulations of the City of London, a mask must be worn indoors at all times. The nose, mouth and chin should be covered. It is mandatory to follow the norms of social distancing, use hand sanitizers and disinfect touched surfaces. Sitting in the pews is allowed only in marked sections that meet social distancing standards. A volunteer will direct the exit.

Icons and the Holy Cross are to be venerated only with a bow. Currently, the sacraments of Holy Confession and Holy Communion will not be available to the laity. If you wish to use a prayer book, bring it from home. During the Memorial Panakhyda on Soul Saturday, March 6, at 11:00 a.m. all diptychs will be read.

Thank you to everyone who donated money in previous months to cover the cost of maintaining the Khram during the winter. We will be grateful for your continued support. Special thanks to Ms. Olga Spivak and her family for the most generous donation of the purchase and installation of the elevator complex in memory of husband and father Mykola Spivak.

Lord God, our Savior and Healer of all, be with us in this time of uncertainty.

February 28, 2021                                           For the Holy Trinity UOCC Parish Executive, with love in Christ,

Mykola Krasnowolskyi, Co-ordinator

Olga Spivak, Parish President
